Tactical Devices

You will be introduced to tactical ideas and their components. You will learn how to use tactics to gain material, checkmate, or save the game.

Double Attack

You will learn an important type of tactic called the double attack. You will learn how to create a double attack with any piece, along with the x-ray double attack.

The "Windmill" Combination

This tactical device is the least used as it is very difficult to set up but if used correctly the game could be in the attacker’s hands. You will learn how to set up and use the windmill combination.

Chess Exercises

Throughout the duration of the 8-week lessons, you will get plenty of opportunities to work on a number of homework and exercises to enhance your knowledge of the game.

Practice Games

A key part of learning chess is putting it in practice. You will get the opportunity to elevate your learning by playing actual games with others in and outside the class.

Chess Learning Portal

You will be provided access to a learning portal and enrolled in our online club so you will have additional opportunities to put into practice what you're learning.

Lessons Delievered Weekly

8 weeks of structured lessons delivered in an in-person class setting. Our group lessons are like no other as our class sizes are intentionally designed to be small (groups of 6 to 12 students) for better learning through more one-on-one interaction between students and our instructors. Suitable for All Ages

Chess is a game for everyone, no matter your age. While most of our students are kids ranging in age from 5 to 18, anyone can benefit from the game of chess and from our chess lessons.

How long are the lessons?

Lessons for Level 2 run for one hour each week for a total of 8 weeks. In addition, students should plan to spend an additional 1 to 2 hours each week to complete assignments, exercises and practice playing games.

What is the cost of the lessons?

Total cost for the 8 weeks of lessons is $217.

Is there a refund if I cancel?

As noted in our refund policy on our webpage, we don't offer cash refunds on withdrawal or cancellation. However, we do offer credit for the amount paid if you notify us of withdrawal at least 2 days before class begins. Credits can be used to register for tournaments and other programs offered by Elevate My Chess. The registration fee will be forfeited if you don't notify us of withdrawals at least 2 days before the first class.

How large are the class sizes?

We intentionally keep our class sizes small with no more than 12 students per class. This will ensure some level of one-on-one interaction and better learning experience for our students.

Do you observe COVID-19 protocols?

Yes, we are required to comply with the Province of Ontario COVID-19 protocols for gatherings similar to our chess events and chess training programs including ensuring that all students complete screening each week, distancing, wearing of masks and regular cleaning and sanitization of the classroom.
