The Canadian Youth Chess Championship is Canada’s largest youth chess event! The players are split into 12 sections based on age and gender. The top 3 finishers in each section qualify for:
The champions of each section are sponsored to play in the WYCC or WCCC!
Please note that all players must be qualified to play in this event. In addition, all players must be Canadian Residents and must also hold a Canadian FIDE flag in order to be official representatives for Canada at the World events. Normally, CYCC participants qualify by placing better than half their peers in a qualifying tournament. However, there are other qualification methods. Note: You can register early to take advantage of EARLY BIRD REGISTRATION FEES prior to qualifying. However, if you’re unable to qualify prior to the start of the tournament, you may be eligible for a full refund subject to a 5% refund fee.
In addition to the low EARLY BIRD Entry fees, we have the following additional EARLY BIRD Registration incentives for participants:
There are twelve (12) sections in this tournament, by FIDE age category and gender. The age cut-off date is January 01, 2020. Thus, this is how different birth years determine the section placement (please check that your child is registered in the proper one!)
Girls U-18, Open U-18: born 2002, 2003
Girls U-16, Open U-16: born 2004, 2005
Girls U-14, Open U-14: born 2006, 2007
Girls U-12, Open U-12: born 2008, 2009
Girls U-10, Open U-10: born 2010, 2011
Girls U-08, Open U-08: born 2012 and later
90 min / end + 30 second increment starting with Move 1 in all sections.
Format: Regular Swiss, seven (7) rounds.
There are no half-point byes at this event. A player can request bye during registration, however, all byes will be zero point byes. If you did not request bye during registration, you must notify the organizer in writing before July 01, 2020. Any “byes” requested after July 01, and especially during the tournament may be considered a forfeit.

There will be NO cash refunds after June 1, 2020. Prior to this date, full refund less a 5% administrative charge will be provided following a written notification to the organizer by email. At the sole discretion of the organizer, consideration for 100% credit can be provided on a case by case basis after June 1, 2020. Credits are valid for one year from the date of issuance and can only be applied to future events organized or managed by Elevate My Chess Canada Inc., or its affiliated chess clubs.
